In honor of Small Business Saturday, I am featuring wonderful restaurants that will not break the budge in New York City. The Pho 6 closed in 2019 but the other locations are still open.
I came across this wonderful little Vietnamese restaurant when I was walking the Turtle Bay neighborhood for my blog, “MywalkinManhattan.com” and was looking for a reasonable meal that evening. I was pleasantly surprised. The food and service were very good and the I had a nice time talking to other guests.
The space for the restaurant is quite tight and it is a long narrow space done in all woods along the walls and in the seating. The kitchen is in the front as you walk in but you can’t see where the cooking is being done. As I walked in at 5:00pm, I must have thrown the staff off as they were eating their lunch when I walked through the door. It was funny because not…
In honor of Small Business Saturday I am sending out merchants I have found on MywalkinManhattan. Don’t miss the treasures you will find here at John Koch Antiques.
John Koch Antiques moved to 47-22 37th Street in Long Island City, NY.
John Koch Antiques is a store that looks like someone just emptied their grandmother’s house and loaded it into one store. The store has been in business for over thirty years and specializes in buying from estate sales. The place is loaded with furniture, accessories, paintings and assorted bric-a-brac.
I love this small, crowded antique store with it loads of Victorian and early 20’s items. There is a treasure trove of small unique gift items from $20.00 and up. I saw antique perfume bottles with the curved metal work, small salt cellars and all sorts of tea pots with flowers, animals and zig-zag designs on them.
There are all sorts of things for the office such as wooden boats, Victrola’s, metal cars and hard liqueur bottles. Paintings stare at…
In honor of Small Business Saturday I am sending out merchants I have found on MywalkinManhattan. Don’t miss this unique toy store. A real one of a kind.
I discovered this store for the first time on my walking project, ‘MywalkinManhattan.com’, when I was walking the Upper East Side. Coming from the Toy Industry (I worked for FAO Schwarz for four years in both main New York store on Fifth Avenue and the Minneapolis store for four months in 1987), I recognized the beauty and fun of the Tiny Doll House.
When I walked in I was greeted by a woman who explaining the store to another customer. One side of the store has all sorts of things to decorate a dollhouse that were all handmade like dolls, food, furniture and accessories that would be the envy of any home. Even the paints to put over a doll house mantle were hand painted (or at…

Hours: Tuesday-Friday-11:00am-4:00pm
The Sutton Clock Shop is fascinating store that literally runs on time. It is one of the few shops in New York that is strictly for watch repair and sales. When you walk into the store, the walls are lined with clocks of all shapes, sizes, colors and ages. They work on modern clocks with the same precision and care as they would an antique or grandfather clock.
In the front of the store, there are case lines of antique curios and bric-a-brac that includes pieces of jewelry, small table pieces and decor items all displayed with gentle care to show their beauty. The prices are very fair as well depending on the piece. This is run by Knud’s wife, Sonia Laws, who takes special pride in the small trinkets of elegance that line…

I was passing this unique little flower shop in the middle of the ‘Flower District’ in New York City right near the Fashion Institute of Technology campus. What attracted me to the shop was the beautiful and colorful displays of plants and potted bushes on the store’s sidewalk and stylish bouquets of flowers they had for sale outside the front door. That lead me to want to walk in and see what the store was all about.
Mahir Floral & Event Design is more than just commercial and event planning although they do both. Their retail aspect of the store is quite unique in the display merchandise they carry, all the stones, shells, glassware and pottery that they use for display and for holding the flowers. It is not the…
In honor of Small Business Saturday, I am sending out merchants I have found on MywalkinManhattan. Don’t miss the unique jewels you will see in the display cases.
Icon is an amazing store! Lara runs a great store.
I came across this unique jewelry shop when walking the lower section of the Upper West Side for my blog, ‘MywalkinManhattan.com’. This interesting store is on a beautiful tree-lined street studded with brownstones and right near the Broadway shopping district and was founded in 1997.
The store was once upon a time a pharmacy that must date back to the last 1880’s as all the original woodwork and shelving were still intact and incorporated into the design of the store. It is now being used as the display cases for the all beautiful and interesting fine, vintage and costume jewelry that span the decades.
What attracted me to the store was the welcoming entrance and the fact that when you walk into the store, you are greeted not…
In honor of Small Business Saturday, I am sending out merchants I have found on MywalkinManhattan. I really suggest you all check out More & More’s Windows at the holidays. They are amazing!
I have visiting More & More Antiques at 378 Amsterdam Avenue when I was walking the neighborhood for my walking project, “MywalkinManhattan”. The one thing about More & More Antiques is the window displays. They really stand out.
When I first passed the store in early October, the windows had Halloween Ornaments hanging down from the ceiling with small figurines on all the side boards and the whole store glittered in black and orange. All over the store there were items for parties and decorations for the home and the perfect host gifts when arriving at someone’s home.
The store is currently decorated for the holidays and Christmas is in the air. In the windows now are all sorts of Christmas decorations and ornaments that show the creative side of decorating a tree…
I came across Stationary & Toy World when I was walking the Upper West Side for my walking project, ‘MywalkinManhattan’ and was taken in by their store window displays with vintage toys. I came to find out they were not very vintage with seeing them and other toys I grew up with in the 70’s and 80’s lining the shelves. It figured when I found out that the store was established in 1988.
What I loved about the store is the variety of items you can find on the shelves. Once section is dedicated to toys and the selection was extensive. The aisle was lined with board games, puzzles, craft toys, painting sets, dress up and coloring books. Another aisle has painting and art supplies for that budding artist within all…
I came across Azalea & Oak when I was walking around Tudor City in the Turtle Bay neighborhood in New York. This unique and quirky store specializing in Women’s Accessories, jewelry and children’s clothing, gifts and stuffed toys was beautifully displayed and wonderful stocked with all sorts of handmade items. It is somewhat hidden in the Tudor City complex. I love their displays as well.
I was talking with one of the salespeople and she was telling me that the store had just been renovated from a flower shop into this new concept of a gift store. The owner is a former buyer for Saks Fifth Avenue and it shows in the selection of merchandise. Everything here is high quality.
The owner herself was the designer of the most of the jewelry in the shop…
When I was exploring the Turtle Bay neighborhood for my blog, “MywalkinManhattan.com” when rounding the corner by the Roger Smith Hotel I was greeted by the beautiful vibrant colors of clothes in the window of Gabrielle Carlson Studio, which at the time was on East 47th Street and has now moved to 501 Lexington Avenue in the Roger Smith Hotel’s shops facing Lexington Avenue.
What attracted me to the store was the vibrant colors of the clothing and uniqueness of the styles and designs. Clothes were hanging from the racks in vibrant deep greens and purples and various hues of blue. There were different types of clothes to choose from including dresses, skirts, tank tops, tee-shirts, scarfs and sheen coverings in various colors and sizes. The store’s motto is “Beautiful Clothes in Your Size” and it…
