Louisa’s Chocolate Bar at 106 Jackson Street in Cape May, NJ

Louisa’s Chocolate Bar is a quirky little candy and dessert store in the Washington Mall in Downtown Cape May that has an impressive array of chocolate bars and rich desserts in this tiny space right near the well-decorated Village Green.

The tiny shop is lined with small batch chocolate bars from boutique brands that are either small batch companies or Fair-Trade Chocolate brands. Louisa’s even has their own private-label brand of chocolate bars that are made in Marine Park, Brooklyn.

Small batch chocolate bars

One of my favorite private label candy bars is their Milk Chocolate with Salted Caramel ($8.00), pricey but delicious. The combination of flavors is interesting and you really can taste the saltiness in the caramel.

Another brand that they carry is the Vorges line that I knew from my days of working at Bergdorf-Goodman. These exotic flavored chocolate bars come in such flavors such as Dark Chocolate with Bacon and Ginger Chocolate Bars ($10.00).

Vosges Chocolate bars are a delicious treat

What is really nice is that you can also have dessert at the store as well. They have four fresh desserts like bread pudding and chocolate cake ($8.00 a slice) and freshly made hot chocolate which the manager was making when I was visiting and it smelt so good.

History of Louisa’s Cafe:

(From the Louisa’s Website)

Long before the farm to table trend invaded America. Louisa’s espoused this philosophy and served food to match. The tiny but iconic eatery was established in 1980 and has been dishing out incredibly fresh and delicious food in the small historic yellow building ever since. The menu is all regional fare, fish caught from the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay, plus vegetables, fruits, herbs (and beautiful fresh flowers) from West Cape May’s Beach Plum Form, augmented by produce from other New Jersey farms.

Louisa’s Restaurant started it all in the 1990’s.

The kitchen philosophy is to cook simple, expertly seasoned dishes that are lovingly prepared and made from fresh, first-rate ingredients. The menu changes often but the one constant you’ll find here is the dedication to a great dining experience.
